Make the most of berry season

Summer is peak season for berries, making it an ideal time to add more of these antioxidant-packed foods to your plate. Berries have short seasons without much overlap between them. As strawberry season winds down, stay on the lookout for blueberries, blackberries and eventually raspberries. This ensures you’re enjoying the freshest produce at its peak.

Berry versatile

Berries are one of the best ways to get your daily serving of fruit because they’re so delicious. They add color and flavor to yogurt, cereal or pancakes. You can also add fresh berries to your favorite dessert for a better-for-you treat.

One of our favorite ways to eat berries is to whip up this mojito-inspired fruit salad from Chef Rob Varner. He adds a squeeze of lime and fresh mint to bring out the refreshing flavors of blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and more.

Berry nourishing

So what makes berries so good for you? For starters, they’re rich in antioxidants, which can play a role in reducing the risk of chronic conditions like heart disease and cancer. Berries also add vitamins, minerals and fiber to your diet, important nutrients that help you feel your best from day to day.

Berry engaging

Berry season is a great time to engage with your community. You-pick berry farms can be found all over and are a great option for family and friends to get out, enjoy the fresh air and bring home a bounty of delicious berries. Another place to get fresh, in-season berries is at your local farmers’ market, where you can chat with farmers, see what grows well in your area and take home some of the freshest produce around.

Berry season is your opportunity to savor some of the most flavorful and nutrient-dense foods nature has to offer. Whether it’s vibrant strawberries, tangy blueberries or sweet raspberries, indulging in these fruits is one of the simplest delights of the season.
